Teen Pregnancies

Being a teen mom is one of the hardest issues for a teenager girl to face. The sexual pressure is also getting more difficult to ignore in schools and the parties that teenagers attend. Having unprotected sex not only causes unplanned teenage pregnancy, it also opens up teens for the risk of STD's and the AIDS virus. Teens need to be educated about the pressures of sex, the responsibility that comes with having sex and the consequences should they choose to do it.

There are health risks that are involved with teenage mothers. Children that are born to moms that are young do suffer some serious consequences while growing up. These include social and emotional issues. In addition, health concerns are a problem. Children born to teenage mothers may be born prematurely, which can cause a baby to be under-developed. Being pregnant throughout the teenage years does pose some other problems. Teenage moms are less likely to gain the adequate amount of weight during their pregnancy. This does cause low birth weight for their unborn babies.

The eating habits of a teenage mom are not as good as other moms to be. Teenage mothers tend to rely more of junk food and do not get the required fruits and vegetables that their bodies need. In addition, the issue with taking prenatal vitamins and supplements, if they are needed, is being ignored. Teens are not getting the adequate prenatal care that their unborn baby needs and so miscarriages might be more likely to happen. As for reckless lifestyles, teens are no strangers to this. While pregnant a teenage girl may still continue to drink, smoke cigarettes, use illegal drugs, or have unprotected sex. These all put her baby at risk.

Being a teen mom is hard when the majority of the time the father is not around or the mother does not know who fathered her child. In addition, the mother may not make enough money to care for her child and have to rely heavily on public assistance. It is also stated that some teenage moms do not complete high school and their children suffer from neglect and abuse. Some children watch as their mothers become depressed with their lives and therefore they grow up being in trouble because they want attention or the young girls become pregnant early just as their moms had. Not all teenage moms are irresponsible, but it is a tough job for any woman, at any age. If you are pregnant get the care that your baby deserves and if you do not think that you can take care of your baby, find someone who can.
