Pregnancy

When Will I Start to Show?

Many women ask this question almost as soon as find out they are pregnant. Some may wish to know because they are very excited about the thought of becoming a mother and want the whole world to know, while others may still wish to fit in their normal clothing as long as possible.

The answer of course varies just as every woman's body varies. Some very small women may notice a slight change in their abdomen area within just a few weeks, while others may not show at all until around the sixth month of pregnancy. Most women begin to get a bulge so speak sometime after their third month begins.

The showing is a slow process and not too many people will even notice until you have gotten larger. In the beginning, just because you can see a change does not mean that anyone else will notice including your partner. Your partner is use to seeing your body change all the time as you went through your menstrual cycle, gaining and losing the little bulge. So, do not be upset if you do not get a reaction from your partner until the baby is bigger and you can feel him or her move. Then it will become real for your husband or life partner. The baby is growing inside you and you will notice changes a lot faster than anyone else, so the baby is real to you, whereas with other around you the baby may not seem as real until he or she begins to move or you are large enough to begin wearing maternity clothing.

If you desire to be noticed and your belly is just not showing enough yet, you can always invite your partner, a family member or close friend to your doctor's appointment. The doctor will measure and listen for the baby's heartbeat. It may be possible to get your partner interested once he can hear that the baby is x amount of centimeters long or hears the heartbeat.

Remember, every pregnancy is different and you may not show much at all or you may become large. A lot of this depends, on your own size, the size of the baby, genetics, and how the baby is positioned. Many times if the baby is more out-front that towards the back your family and friends will notice faster.

I would stay to start purchasing maternity clothing around your third month would be the best time, however, you may outgrow them if you purchase them too small. The most important thing to remember is to be comfortable.
