The Significance of Positive Self Image in Pregnancy
The importance of a positive self-image begins as early as you are conscious of your own image reflected in a mirror. This usually occurs in early childhood but becomes significant during pregnancy, when the many changes experienced by a woman's body causes stress, anxiety, depression and sometimes lowers the self-esteem.
If you have heard the saying "only you can make yourself happy", you can make sure that this is a reality. Research conducted by the American Psychological Association has shown 2 leading factors to happiness, well being is self-esteem, rather than the most expected topics, such as money, power, popularity, power, or luxury, which were rated the lowest.
Coincidentally, these factors are the most exposed to suffering during your pregnancy. Well-being comes as soon as you confirm that you have conceived, but the normal pregnancy process will decrease this wellness as the first signs and symptoms of your pregnancy take place. At the same time, your self-image will fluctuate during your pregnancy, sometimes lowering your self-esteem.
Most women have a positive self-image of themselves based on their beauty and body shape, but it is rather hard to feel beautiful when pregnancy is making you gain weight and feel exhausted and nauseous. Women excessively obsessed with body fitness can find it very hard to accept the extra pounds and yet keep the positive self-image they use to maintain.
Pregnancy is one of the most important stages in a woman's life. It may be your life long dream however; you will probably have to redefine your self-image to recover your self-esteem during the months of your pregnancy and immediately after childbirth, because changes in your body and your life remain the same for a few months after delivery.
Although listening to your internal voice is the first step in changing your self-image, be careful with your judgments. Hormonal changes occurring during your pregnancy can make you feel depressed and can make you have thoughts that you would not even consider when you were not pregnant. Self-criticisms should not be severe, but the lack of criticisms can stop your self -improvement.
Self-image is how you perceive yourself. Keep in mind that during pregnancy you are perceiving an image that will not last forever, so it is necessary to adequate your feelings and thoughts to this time, accepting that you can maintain a high positive self-image like you had prior to your pregnancy.
Because self-Image is the idea or mental conception that you have of yourself, make sure you keep on changing your self-image as you body changes, and your self-esteem will not be so hurt, educating yourself about what is happening to your body and feelings during this stage. |
