Caring For Your Feet in Pregnancy
Feet are as important for wellness that there is a branch of Alternative Medicine focusing on feet for a large number of health therapies and treatment. Reflexology, the ancient Chinese science using pressure-point massage, that William Fitzgerald introduced in the United States as early as the 1900's, but extremely popular as New Age, holistic health practice.
Pregnancy is a stage of life causing many discomforts that are rewarded with the development of a new life, so this stage of your life deserves some practices and cares that aid your wellness. Throughout the different stages of pregnancy, your feet will suffer different discomforts that you can relieve with rest and massage.
Additionally, you can experience a relaxing experience by washing your feet an on-a-daily-basis rite. Wash and dry your feet every single day using mild soaps and warm water, then pat your skin dry, thoroughly dry your feet but do not rub them.
After washing, use a lotion or cream on your feet to prevent cracking, but avoid putting lotion between your toes. Let the lotion dry alone. Some health care providers, and particularly those in Alternative Medicine, suggest combining aromatherapy techniques to increase your wellness.
Using fragrant soaps and lotions, including those made with natural essences and/or adding a few drops of an essential oil to the warm washing water can bring a new dimension of well being and relaxation. However, during the firs trimester, fragrances can worsen nausea and vomiting, particularly when using perfumes instead of natural aromas.
Some reflexologists suggest products with a citric base, particularly lemon essential oil, which can alleviate nausea symptoms. Undergoing reflexology therapy can add the benefit of feet care by applying pressure, stretching, and movement, breaking up patterns of stress, controlling nausea and restoring balance while relieving tension.
Furthermore, reflexology therapies can also improve blood circulation in feet and legs, contribute to your health, and diminish swelling during the last trimester of pregnancy.
Caring for your feet should also include the observation of your toenails. Cut toenails after washing your feet, when they are soft enough which makes it easier. Cut your toenails straight across, avoiding cutting into the corners of toes, and smooth them with an emery board.
Remember that your feet are not always resting and in a relaxed position. You need to walk and exercise so make sure you are wearing comfortable shoes avoiding high heels, and protect your feet with socks or stockings when the weather is cold. |
