Emotions and Pregnancy
Every woman experiences pregnancy in their own unique way however, there are physical and emotional changes that every woman goes through during pregnancy that you should understand. Once you understand what your body is going through and the emotional changes that can occur, you can have an enjoyable experience. However, just because these changes do happen you may experience very mild or severe changes, once again, all pregnancies are different.
During the first trimester, of course, you will notice physical changes such as tiredness, vomiting, nausea, and breast tenderness, but there are also emotional changes that also occur. It is believed that these emotional changes are due to hormonal changes, which cause mood swings. Many pregnant women feel depressed during the first three months of pregnancy and may even have times that she cries and cannot really put her finger on the reason.
Due to the pregnant woman not even knowing the reason for her depression or crying, it is even harder on her partner. He may withdraw because of confusion and inadequacy in helping his wife through her time of need. If her partner does withdraw this can make the depression become more intense because she may begin to feel unloved.
The second trimester is normally easier, even emotionally. The morning sickness has usually left by now and you have more energy and feel better. It will be the time to begin searching for those cute maternity outfits to match your glow of pregnancy. This is also the time in which you will begin to feel the baby move for the first time, which can bring on added excitement.
During the last trimester of pregnancy, you will notice more stress and anxiety. You may begin to feel that you need more help which can give you feelings of helplessness and neediness. This can be very difficult for a mom-to-be that is normally in control and can do most anything. Everyone will be asking questions while you are out shopping such as when is the baby due, do you need help with your bags, etc…, and this can become very annoying especially if you are asked repeatedly all day long. You will also have more discomforts because your baby has grown in size and so has your abdomen. You may find it hard to find a comfortable position to sleep and when you add the extra weight, and stress you may notice you are a bit more grumpier than normal.
Just remember, any and all feelings and emotions that you have while you are pregnant are the same ones every new mom has prior to giving birth. Enjoy the pregnancy and be prepared for a lifetime of love and affection from your newborn. |
