Your baby's name is something as personal as your tastes are, but you must keep in mind that you will bestow your baby a life-long present.

A name can shape the identity of an individual, impact how others will relate to him or her. This association begins as early as the moment in which you give your baby a name, and the premise is choosing the right one because a name can affect the self-esteem of a child later on, impacting how other children respond to your baby's name as soon as grade school.

You and your partner conceived the baby, so it is more likely you and your partner will choose the name. Sometimes family and friends are happy to help with suggestions, but it is the decision of the parents when it is time to name your bundle of joy.

The list of names are countless and the criteria to select a name depends on many factors ranging from the most popular to the most successful, including celebrities' names or ancient heroes. Names can be also related to other living members of the family, or ancestors who have passed away.

A few couples take sometime on deciding for well-chosen name that sounds better with the baby's surname. Others may use surnames for the name itself, while many more select names of geographic locations as first name for the baby, if not a dictionary word in some cases.

Before globalization, all names were local, but with many different name trends, cultures and ethnicities operating at once in your locality, the use of particular names not belonging to your environment are a common possibility. In fact, many couples consider giving their babies a foreign name.

Disregarding the criteria you follow in choosing your baby's name, narrow down your name choices, and give name a by deciding how it will impact your baby's live, Do you believe he or she will be happy with that name? Would it affect him/her negatively? And many other considerations.

Although there is no written rule, some experts advise to give your baby the name you or your partner would like to have yourself, and if the name is in honor of your relatives or ethnic heritage, think twice about how it will affect your baby throughout his or her childhood. The way a name affects him or her during this stage will follow them into adulthood.

Names to avoid are those representing opportunities of bad jokes on the baby, such as name and surname that rhyme, "cute" diminutive names, silly or unusual combinations or those forming acronyms and unconventional spelling or pronunciation.

No doubt, choosing the name for you baby is fun but always a difficult decision that lasts a lifetime.
