Anxieties in the Last Days of Pregnancy
It is very common to have anxieties and worries through the different stages of pregnancy, especially if this is your first baby, or you have had miscarriages before.
Many women worry about what they eat, drink, feel, think about and do and wonder how much of these things will affect the baby that is growing inside.
The very best way to rid yourself of all of these feelings is to:
- Enroll in a childbirth class
- Talk with your health care practitioner
- Let your partner know your fears and worries
- Stick to your birthing plan
- Eat well balanced meals and stay away from junk food
- Quit smoking and avoid alcohol
- Talk with family and friends
If you are the type of the person that always looks out for others and cares for others before you care for yourself, now is the time to change all that. You need to be your top priority; this in itself will help you care for your unborn baby.
If your anxieties begin to increase the closer you get to your due date, this can be from the unknown. If you have never had a baby you may not be prepared for labor and delivery or have a few concerns about the entire process. This can once again be relieved by learning more about labor, what happens to your body and how to relief the pain and discomfort that occurs.
The best thing to do is to have a birthing plan, know where you desire to give birth, know who will aid in delivery, know who you wish to be present, know what type of birthing position and technique you feel comfortable using, and most importantly ask all the questions you have to your doctor.
Knowing what to expect will normally rid you of any of the anxieties. Above all else, do not listen to the horror stories of your family and friends and their experiences during labor and delivery. Remember, every pregnancy is different just as you are different from your friends.
Listen to your doctor through every stage of pregnancy, if he puts you on bed rest - then go to bed, if he tells you to take vitamins or supplements – then do so. All of these things will ensure that your labor and delivery will go well and you will give birth to a healthy baby.
Do not lie around the house being inactive and worry. Get up, go for a walk and enjoy these days of pregnancy.
