Home Birth
Many people are returning to natural childbirth at home. This can be accomplished with most pregnancies as long as the mother is healthy, there are no chances of injury to the mother or her baby, and if there are no apparent health risks.
Choosing a home birth is becoming more and more popular as many couples prefer to have their baby born at home in the comfort of their home instead of in an unfamiliar setting. The popular believe is that it will be more comforting to both mother and baby, which may make labor and delivery easier especially for mom.
You should speak with your physician before deciding on home birth to ensure you do not have any medical conditions that could endanger you or your unborn child such as diabetes. Then you can talk with different agencies that offer midwifery information. You should be able to find several midwives that are willing to aid you with your home birth. Many midwives have years of experience and can give you all the advice that you both need to ensure that your delivery at home goes smoothly.
Not only will they be able to prepare you for a home birth, but they can also assist with the delivery. You may wish that the midwife takes full charge during the delivery, or you may wish for your husband and yourself be in charge with the midwife only there in case of problems and of course for encouragement.
Deciding on a home birth is a very big decision and should not be taken lightly. It may be cheaper but the well-being of both mother and child should be considered before anything else.
You should still talk with your physician, take pre-natal vitamins, and listen to his or her advice. If there are any complications or if you find you in labor prior to the 37 th week of pregnancy, you should contact your health care provider immediately. It is not advisable to have a baby before the due date at home. In the hospital, your baby has a greater chance of survival than at home in cases of pre-mature birth.
If you do decide on a home birth, and your doctor agrees, then you must be sure that your partner and any other family members are also prepared. The joy of bringing your baby into the world at home can be a wonderful decision if there are no medical problems. |
