The Birthing Room

The big day has finally arrived and you are at the hospital. At first they may put you into a standard hospital room and then wheel you off to labor and delivery when the baby comes. For some new moms they get the chance to have their babies in what is called a birthing room. This is the room where you start and end your delivery. The baby is born there and then family and friends visit that room. The baby may also sleep in a birthing room with the mom.

The purpose of a birthing room is to provide mom with a relaxing and comfortable place to give birth. Birthing rooms are designed to look more like a bedroom than a sterile hospital room. Most delivery rooms are cold and do not allow for much family to be involved with the birthing process. This is not true of a birthing room. More of your family can be a part of your delivery. The birthing rooms are large enough to accommodate the doctors, nurses, your family, a midwife, and anyone else they you may want there. The lighting is different in these rooms creating a warmer atmosphere. Even rocking chairs are in the room so that after delivery you can rock your new, little one.

A natural homelike alternative to a hospital room may sound like a dream come true to most new rooms. While birthing rooms are nice they may not be fully functional. Sometimes too much furniture is set up in the room that may cause problems when you are moving around and changing positions for your delivery. These rooms are quite comforting and fashionable, but they may be too down to earth to assist during the delivery. Not all women want their entire family in on the birthing experience. It is quite personal when you share it with the child's father and then when you are ready you let everyone in to see the baby. The delivery can be a draining experience.

Birthing rooms are fashionable. They are designed with the pregnant women in mind. With a birthing room you may as well deliver at home. Check with the hospital that you have decided to deliver at and make sure the birthing room is equipped should problems happen during your delivery. No matter how nice the room is the health of your newborn is the most important aspect of the delivery.
